Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Grade: A 07/25/2014
This is the Kubrick film that was WAY ahead of its time, and it is unlike any other of his films. Kubrick always has a theme of dehumanization in his films, and this time around, he uses Zucker style slapstick in order to do it. It doesn't hurt that he has Peter Sellers performing the 3 leads, all differently, all successful, and all hilarious. My favorite is Sellers as the President, because the looks of astonishment of how powerless he is and his frustration trying to interact with George C. Scott's General are priceless. Only a master like Kubrick can take mutually assured destruction of the planet and put a black comic spin on it, and never falter.
