The Passion of the Christ
Grade: A- 07/23/2014
I actually saw this film in Times Square, on opening night, which happened to be Ash Wednesday. It was quite an experience. I have always held to the fact that religion inspires artists like no other force. Mel Gibson is devout, and brings that to his director's chair, and provides a powerful epic of his lord tortured and crucified. Many parts of this film are difficult to watch, as it is so grotesquely and graphically violent. Even though the gore is necessary to get the message across...it is nonetheless a test of one's constitution. If ever there was a movie to nullify the usefulness of the MPAA...it is this film. Show graphic sex? you get an NC-17 no question. Show 2hrs of bloddy torutre with chunks of skin being ripped from a character's back? Yeah....R....no problem.
