Moulin Rouge
Grade: A- 07/23/2014
Ebert said it best about this film: "It is like being stuck on an elevator with the circus." The film is hyper-realistic and so relentlessly paced that it is difficult to even follow any sory of plot. However, it almost insists on being entertaining and the viewer is so bombarded with sound & sight, that is impossible to resist it. When McGregor and Kidman sing their "Elephant Love Medley"...you realize that you are powerless in defending yourself from Baz Luhrmann's onslaught of stimulation and you just indulge in the insanity. It is pretty much "Shakespeare in Love"...but it is that film as it would be made by a hyperactive, ADHD 10-year-old...but in a good way.
